Physical Literacy
Physical literacy is the mastering of fundamental movement & sport skills that permit a person to interact with their environment & make appropriate decisions, allowing them to move confidently & with control in a wide range of physical activity situations.
While discussions about physical literacy generally focus on helping children acquire the necessary physical skills to be able to participate fully in sport & physical activity, it is important throughout a person’s lifetime. The “Active for life” stage can be entered at any age, beginning with developing physical literacy in early childhood.
Physically literate women & girls have the confidence & competence to successfully engage in sport & physical activity that enhances their physical & psychological wellbeing, & are able to pursue a level of sport excellence in line with their ability & motivation.
