Train To Train

Train to Train is a major fitness development stage with potential for significant growth in aerobic capacity & strength. The onset of the adolescent growth spurt & the time of Peak Height Velocity (PHV) are key markers & growth must be tracked. This is a great time to introduce free weights with emphasis on correct technique. Adolescents who choose to compete will need guidance in learning to prepare mentally for competition. Coaches & organizers should also work with athletes & participants to build ancillary capacities & address sport-life balance. Adults should ensure that activities & the sporting environment promotes & supports fun & friendship. Time should be spent developing an ethical approach to sport including respect for opponents & fair play & commitment to doping-free sport.
