The Facts

Nearly 4 in 10 girls are missing out on the benefits of sport altogether; this jumps to 5 in 10 by age 16. By age 14, girls drop out of sport at two times the rate of boys.

A recent study found that the top two reasons girls aged 7 to 16 choose to play & stay in sport are to make friends & to be part of a team.

Unlike the health benefits of regular physical activity, social connection is not guaranteed when a team is formed. Rather, the responsibility for cultivating it lies with the group leader(s).
